Students learn to bowl and more

T hird-graders from Dutch Broadway School visited Dani’s Strike Zone in Elmont on a field trip that provided students an opportunity to learn to bowl while applying math and science concepts to a real-life activity.

Prior to the field trip, third grade teachers gave students a lesson on the mechanics of scoring. They also spoke about the force and friction needed to knock down the bowling pins. According to third-grade teacher Robert Bambrick, the visit brought classroom teachings to life.

“This activity lets the students see how what we learn in the textbook applies to the real world,” he said. “It also allowed the children to utilize a service in their community, which is a good experience because some of them have never bowled before.”
