Valentines for Veterans

As a part of a district-wide program known as Valentines for Vets, students from Franklin Square and Elmont schools created Valentine’s Day cards for veterans.

Hempstead Town Councilman Bruce Blakeman visited Polk Street Elementary School on Feb. 9 to pick up the cards the students had created.

The program was instituted in 2001 and has students create and send Valentine’s Day cards to veterans at local hospitals. Many of the veterans do not have families and it means a lot to them to know that the young children appreciate them for the sacrifices they made for our nation.

On Feb. 12 Hempstead Town Councilman Ed Ambrosino visited Covert Avenue Elementary School in Elmont. Ambrosino congratulated them and presented a town Certificate of Recognition to the students in Ms. Joanna Morrison’s class who participated in the Valentines for Vets program.
