Welding accident causes serious injury

Nassau County Police Arson Bomb Squad is investigating an incident that occurred on Thursday, April 30, at 8:33 a.m. in Elmont.

According to detectives, a 62-year-old man was attempting to light a welding torch when a fuel-air explosion occurred.

The victim was transported to a local hospital for burns to his face, chest, hands and the loss of three fingers.

The victim is employed by LJC Dismantling Corporation on Meacham Avenue. The incident occurred at 1349 Star Avenue, which is located across the street.

The Elmont Fire Department and the Nassau County Fire Marshals’ responded to the scene.

As of Thursday afternoon, the investigation is on-going.
