Lynbrook Parks Supervisor Patrick McDermott was honored at Monday’s village board meeting for retiring after a decade serving the village.

McDermott was presented with a citation by Mayor Alan Beach and the village board, and a plaque from Chamber of Commerce President Steve Wangel.

“We at the village are sorry to see you leave,” Beach said. “We will miss you and it’s sad for us. We wish you the best.”

McDermott has been parks supervisor and part of the village’s Recreation Department since 2009. In his role, he helped run many of the village’s programs, implemented new ideas, managed Greis Park and prepared the Village Pool for its opening each summer. He also worked closely with the chamber to organize the Mayor’s Golf Outing each July and supported the Community Chest, which provides financial help to residents who have fallen on hard times.

Wangel lauded McDermott for his help over the years.

“On behalf of my membership, I join everyone in the village in wishing a bittersweet farewell to you as supervisor of the Lynbrook Recreation Department,” he said. “You have brought many innovative programs to the Recreation Department during your tenure and have always been a great friend to the chamber.”

On its Facebook page, the Recreation Department celebrated McDermott for his dedication.

“Thank you to Patrick McDermott for 10 years of service to the Lynbrook Village and Greis Park as park supervisor,” the post read. “We wish you luck on your future endeavors.”

McDermott declined to comment on stepping down from the post.
