On April 12 and 13, the Lawrence Woodmere Academy (LWA) drama department performed our production of “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.” For those who don’t know, the musical was adapted from a 1988 film starring Steve Martin and Michael Caine. The story follows the race between two crafty thieves, Fred Benson and Lawrence Jamieson, each of whom bets he can obtain $50,000 before the other.

As a high school senior, it is to be expected that college is always on my mind. It seems that, regardless of the time or place, the tricky subject finds an opening. College! That magical fairytale land of which every high-school student dreams. I spent my freshman, sophomore, and junior years dreaming. In my senior year, I learned that I was responsible for getting there.

“A hundred-year storm” was I phrase I heard politicians and meteorologists use to describe this mysterious Sandy. With the memory of Hurricane Irene still fresh in my mind, I figured that once again these warnings were an exaggeration, nothing more than a precaution.
