A Five Towns youth institution is trying to make a comeback. Founded in 1956, the Inwood Buccaneers Athletic Club has been a staple of youth sports, offering children with an opportunity to play football or cheer during the fall, and play basketball during the winter; because of low enrollment numbers the organization hasn’t been able to run a football program since 2015. This year, the Buccaneers hope that changes. more

While three local soccer leagues are flourishing, the 60-year-old Inwood Buccaneers Athletic Club has suspended its football and cheerleading programs this fall. more
The Lawrence-based Inwood Buccaneer Athletic Club held its annual Inwood Buccaneer Day at Lawrence High School last Sunday. The event is to showcase the club’s seven, eight, nine, 10, 11 and 12 year-olds football teams and its cheerleaders. more
Lou D’Agostino, who starred on the Lawrence High School varsity football team and won the 1990 Thorp Award as the best player in Nassau County, is now serving as the director of football operations for the Inwood Buccaneers Athletic Club, the organization that gave him his start in the sport. more
The Number Six School is sold The Lawrence School District Board of Education announced their were two remaining bidders seeking to purchase the Number Six School in Woodmere. The board approved an agreement to sell the 6.67-acre site that includes the 80,170-square foot building to the Hebrew Academy of Long Beach for $8.5 million. Lawrence is also expected to realize an annual savings of more than $550,000 in transportation costs. In March, the community approved the sale. In 2012, a referendum to sell the property to Bronx-based Simone for a Mt. Sinai Hospital medical center failed. more
