Regarding Al D’Amato’s column “It’s time to unite before it’s too late” in the Oct. 10-16 Herald, and his lack of support for Republicans such as Ted Cruz, who, as D’Amato sees it, are causing problems: These Republicans are not the problem! They are heroic!

In response to the letter from Donald Walsh of Franklin Square (“Senator Cruz is a hero, Al,” Oct. 24-30), as an American, I cherish our democracy and rights of all to hold and express our individual views, but I am frankly shocked that the Herald would print the dangerous, inflammatory rants of Donald Walsh, including his mis-characterization of President Obama as a “Muslim Marxist.”

Residents in communities surrounding JFK Airport know all too well the problem of jet noise. Over the decades, they have witnessed an increasing number of flights in and out of JFK. To accommodate the increase, the curfew from midnight to 6 a.m. was eliminated in the 1990s. Plane noise now occurs virtually at all hours.

On Tuesday, I am voting for Gary Port to be my next supervisor. I am voting for Gary because as a lieutenant colonel in the United States Army, and a family man, he understands the words sacrifice, honor and loyalty. I am not asking for an elected leader to solve my problems, just one to be loyal to me, a resident of this town — not a political party boss.
