The Yeshiva University Maccabees, named for the ancient Hebrew family that led to the miracle of what became the eight-day Jewish holiday, won their eighth game of the season, their 44th consecutive victory (44 candles are lit during Hanukkah), a 78-56 win over Manhattanville behind the 51-point performance by senior guard Ryan Turell. Our quest for the perfect Hanukkah gifts for our children and grandchildren takes on a new urgency this year in light of the challenges, difficulties and anxieties they face because of the Covid-19 virus. The joy of giving and the reward of seeing happy children as they unwrap their gifts is a central theme of Hanukkah. That being said let us not lose sight of the main message and lessons of Hanukkah as reflected in the heroes of this most beloved of Jewish holidays, the Maccabees.  more
After winning their 28th and 29th consecutive games of what has become a truly magical season, the No. 13 nationally ranked Yeshiva University Maccabees advanced to the NCAA Division III Sweet 16 for the first time ever in school history. more
