Family mattered a great deal to Arline G. Zelman as she worked with her husband and will be remembered by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren for her motherly ways.
Surrounded by her children, Zelman died on March 11 in upstate Little Falls. She was 91.
Dr. Henry Zelman, who predeceased his wife, had a dental practice in Lawrence and an office in the city for several decades. Arline served as his dental assistant in the Lawrence office. “She was equally responsible for creating many beautiful smiles due to her great love of people,” her daughter Meredith Narissi said.
Zelman grew up in Brooklyn, and later her family moved to Woodmere. She met Henry on the beach in Far Rockaway, where he worked as lifeguard when he attended dental school. The couple settled in Woodmere after they were married. Later in life, Zelman lived in Punta Gorda, Fla. for a time.
She will always be remembered for outgoing personality, the way she cared for people and the kind words Zelman shared with family and friends, her daughter said.
In addition to Narissi and her husband, Stephen, Zelman is survived by her daughter, Pamela and husband, Dr. Frank Capone, and sons, Dr. Russell Zelman and his wife Lorna and Dr. Warren Zelman, and his wife, Sari. She will be cherished by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was held at Beth Israel Cemetery in Woodbridge, New Jersey.
