Sought a better life for his family

Longtime Inwood resident Aurelio Vacchio died on June 21. He was 87.

Vacchio was born in Italy on Sept. 3, 1925 and came to Woodmere 45 years ago. “He wanted to have a better life for his family,” said his daughter Fern.

Vacchio worked maintaining the golf course at the Lawrence Yacht & Country Club, according to General Manager Leo McMahon.

“He was very nice, kindhearted and generous,” Fern said.

He is survived by his children Olimpia, Phil, Gina, Fern and Carmella.

Services were held on June 24 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Inwood and Vacchio was interred at Cemetery of the Holy Rood in Westbury.
