Auto Zone in Lawrence robbed at gunpoint

The Auto Zone store at 711 Burnside Ave. in Lawrence was allegedly robbed at gunpoint of an unspecified amount of cash on Jan. 4 at 8:33 p.m., police said.

A store clerk, 21, was approached by a black man wearing a ski mask who pointed a gun at the man and demanded money from the cash register, according to police.

The clerk put an undisclosed amount of money in a bag, as the alleged robber approached the front door to leave the store a bullet was fired from his gun, police said. He then left the store and fled north on Lawrence Lane.

There were two employees and one customer in the store during the robbery. No injuries were reported.

Two similar incidents have occurred in Valley Stream and North Woodmere.

On Jan. 4 at 6:56 p.m., police said that a woman, 32, working at the Super 99 Cent store at 525 West Merrick Rd., was approached by a black man wearing a
black leather jacket, black mask, gray hat and black jeans.

The man allegedly went behind the register, pointed a handgun at her and grabbed an undisclosed amount of cash. He fled the scene on foot west on Merrick Road, according to police.

There were two customers and three employees in the store during the incident. No injuries were reported.

On Dec. 28 at the Shell gasoline station at 928 Rosedale Rd. in North Woodmere, a man wielding a handgun allegedly robbed the Shell station an unspecified amount of money.

According to police, the man, described as black, 20- to 25-years-old, 5-feet-8-inches with a thin build wearing a black-hooded jacket, dark pants, black glove on his right hand and a mask entered the station’s store pointed a gun at the 54-year-old clerk and demanded the clerk remove cash from the resister.

Then the man ordered both the clerk and another man, 72, into the back of the store. The man, who placed the money in a black plastic bag, then fled on foot through the front door onto Rosedale Road.
