Farewell, Valley Stream

Covering Valley Stream was not a task I did alone. I would like to thank my reporters over the years, Anthony Bottan, Clarissa Hamlin, Brian Croce and, most recently, T.J. Brennan. Their contributions to the Herald were invaluable and helped make the newspaper better. I would also like to acknowledge the many photographers whose work captured important moments in Valley Stream, as well as the various interns, freelancers and guest columnists whose work has been published in the paper.

I know great things are in store for Valley Stream in the coming weeks, months and years, and I look forward to staying current with the news. I hope you will welcome my successor, Micah Danney, with open arms, and I wish him the best of luck. The Herald will be in good hands.

While I won’t necessarily miss routinely traveling the Southern State Parkway, I will miss coming to Valley Stream several times throughout the week, covering the events that matter to you, and interacting with all the great people who call it home. I thank you all for welcoming me to the community seven years ago, for sharing your stories with me, and continuing to read the paper each week even as the world goes digital.

Please stay in touch. My email will remain the same, ahackmack@liherald.com. Drop me a message anytime to say hi. Breakups are hard, but I hope we can still be friends.
