Wellington C. Mepham High School celebrated its 78th commencement on June 26 at NYCB Theater in Westbury before a proud crowd of administrators, family members and students.

“Their selflessness and compassion is extraordinary,” Principal Michael Harrington said of the class’s philanthropic efforts. “You have come to realize the power of your collective wisdom and collaboration. You’ve learned that it’s possible to achieve extraordinary things where there is a shared sense of purpose and importance.”

Senior Class President McKayla Cates spoke about new beginnings. “For the first time in our entire lives, we get a clean slate,” she said. “It is a time to reinvent ourselves, to be the best version of us we can be.”

Valedictorian John Grover echoed this message of the possibility of what the future holds. “If you’ve been one to stand on the sidelines, don’t hesitate to step onto the field,” he said.

Salutatorian Kristina DiMiceli told her peers that every high school experience carried great significance. “From the tiny freshmen that walked through the doors on the first day to the decorated seniors that left on the last –– we have impacted each other for the better,” she said.
