The Five Towns Community Chest 30th annual fai will continue on Monday, Columbus Day, Oct. 13 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
“We are proud to produce the fair each and every year,” he said. “We have a great partnership with the Herald, going back beyond the 30 years. The Herald helped resurrect the fair, through the Richner family. They have been an inspiration for other local businesses to show them how to help their community.”
Rides, games, activities, music and food are the big draw every year. Eric Keslowitz, the chairman of the community chest’s board of directors, said that the fair is the perfect time for celebrating the Jewish holiday of Sukkot and Columbus Day simultaneously.
“Since schools are not in session, the fair offers a great opportunity for family and community to come together,” he said. “Including community entertainment, we will have rides for toddlers and young adults, games to test your skills, information on available community services and great food in our picnic area complete with a community Sukkah (a temporary structure used for meals used during Sukkot).”
One of this year’s added attractions is the area set aside for nine holes of miniature golf. “I go to a lot of other events to see what attractions they have, and try to bring them to our fairs,” Block said. “We continue trying to update what we do every year to keep people coming back.”
On Saturday night an outdoor showing of “Finding Nemo” is scheduled at 8 p.m. The movie night, Block said, he enjoys because it brings families together. “Our movie night is a wonderful sense of community,” he said. “Families are cuddled together in their blankets, watching the movie together.”
