Handing the pressure of Midterm Week

Posted

It’s that time a year again! Second semester is just around the corner, with just one little thing in between the halfway point of the 2014-2015 school year — Midterm Week.
Typically, Midterm Week is right after the Martin Luther King Jr. break. You’ll find students scrambling, teachers compiling stacks of review sheets and a packed (and somewhat silent) library.
Fortunately, as a senior, my classmates and I have gone through the gruesome week three times before. We’re pros at this point. Now, we get to reap the benefits of this; many of us have two midterms or less!
Many seniors have sent out their college applications and possibly received responses and are headed into their second and final semester here at Hewlett High School. With plenty of experience in studying and preparing, many feel tranquil about their final midterm week in high school.
“This is the first year I only have two midterms, so my schedule will not be as stressful or jam-packed. Because of this, I am using the extra days off to go on college visits,” said senior Ariel Eisenberg.

For juniors, however, in the midst of all the standardized testing, they must now have to worry about doing well on midterms. It can be difficult to balance studying for the SATs/ACTs and various midterms.
“As a junior, my schedule is very busy! I have to study for my ACT, and now my midterms. It’s stressful, to say the least. I, along with many of my classmates, am finding it extremely difficult to manage my time,” said Lindsey Reiter.
Although stressful at times, Midterm Week is just a part of being a high school student. Everyone goes through it, and students get better and better at managing their time as they mature.
Faculty and students at Hewlett High have been using their time preparing for midterm exams. So, just remember the next time you drive past Everit Avenue and see stressed students and teachers carrying loads of books and papers, wish them good luck as this pressure-packed week is just beginning.
