Having fun honoring neighbors that help

Comedian Johnny Lambert contributed his side-slitting humor and Hewlett residents Howard and Dana Taub and representatives from several local first responder units were honored at the sixth annual Five Towns Community Chest Neighbors in Need fundraiser at the Lawrence Yacht & Country Club on Nov. 19.
The Thursday event drew nearly 300 people and raised approximately $50,000 for Community Chest, which applies the proceeds to support local organizations and individuals and families in need of assistance.
The Harrison/Kerr family, John and Carol Harrison and Michael and Susan Kerr donated a total of $20,000, while 25 people donated $1,000 each when asked to help five different families in need of a place to live and money to pay their bills.
Cedarhurst-based Rock and Wrap It Up! recovered 60 pounds of unused food. Using its whole earth calculator it was determined that 46 meals were saved for those who need food and 46 pounds of carbon dioxide would not be emitted into the environment.
