Hewlett man arrested for 2011 shooting

Police arrested Hamilton Croft, 38, from Hewlett on Feb. 8 for allegedly shooting Daniel Flowers, then 20, in July 2011. Flowers, a Freeport resident, died from injuries related to being shot on Jan. 2.

On July 3, 2011 after 3 a.m., Flowers was with a group of friends near 302 Main Street in Hempstead, when Croft approached him and shot him, according to police. Flowers was struck in the neck. He was then taken to a hospital and his condition was considered serious. Flowers, 24, went to a hospital on Dec. 31 because of complications from his injuries.

Croft is charged with murder second-degree, and was expected to be arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on Feb. 9.
