High winds — gusts up to 60 mph were reported — knocked down several trees and branches throughout the Village of Lawrence on Jan. 31, according to Village Administrator Dave Smollett.

The village’s Department of Public Works crew has been assigned to clean up the felled trees and debris, he said.

No power outages were reported in Lawrence, Smollett added.

In Cedarhurst, Mayor Andrew Parise said that four trees, two in the park that bears his name, were reported to be knocked down due to the high winds.

Parise said the village's DPW staff are working on saving the trees by digging a hole on the side where the tree has remained upright and pushing it back up, then holding the tree in place with stakes.

No power outages were reported in the village, he added.
