As part of its 60th anniversary celebration, Temple Hillel presented its Ronald Reagan Award to former U.S. Sen. Alfonse D’Amato during a program last Sunday that also commemorated the 1984 visit by Reagan to the North Woodmere synagogue, only the second to a Jewish temple by a sitting U.S. president who addressed the congregation.
The program included remarks from keynote speaker State Sen. and Majority Leader Dean Skelos (R-Rockville Centre), County Executive Ed Mangano, Temple Hillel Rabbi Steven M. Graber and temple President Allan Greene. The Lawrence High School Chorale sang the national anthem and the Island Park Fire Department performed honor guard duties.
