Inwood man arrested for selling fireworks illegally

Two men, including one from Inwood, were arrested by Nassau County’s Narcotics/Vice Bureau on June 27 for illegally possessing and selling fireworks.

Tobias Scott, 52, of Pearl Street, in Inwood, and Samuel Andujar, 45, of Ventor Drive, Tobyhanna, Pa., were found to have and sold six 3-inch aerial mortar shells, which are 1.3G “commercial” grade explosives, along with 16 assorted items of 1.4G “consumer” grade fireworks, police said.

Commercial fireworks used in large displays are regulated by the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and typically have much more flash powder for a larger explosion than consumer fireworks. Consumer fireworks such as firecrackers are under the jurisdiction of the federal Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Neither Scott nor Andujar hold a valid license to possess, store or sell the items found in their possession, according to police. Both men were arrested at their respective residences without incident.

The men are being charged with New York State Labor Law Licenses and Certificates. They will be arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on June 29.
