Village of Lawrence Mayor Martin Oliner ordered a 30-day extension on Nov. 28 of the declaration of the state of emergency that the village initially instituted on Nov. 4 due to the condition created by Hurricane Sandy.

The state of emergency now extends to Dec. 28.

According to village officials, the current continuing conditions in Lawrence include an imminent threat of damage, injury or loss of life or property resulting from the lasting effect of Sandy, including damage to the infrastructure and private property.

"Homes still flooding, families and/or relatives still displaced, lack of electricity still pertains," said Oliner, adding that the Lawrence Yacht and Country Club requires immediate attention, while mitigation and problems with the Federal Emergency Management Agency persist.
