Lighting the menorah at Cedarhurst Park
Tauree Thompson/Herald
Ville of Cedarhurst Mayor Andrew Parise, second from left, and Rabbi Schneur Wolowik, forth from left, led the lighting of the menorah ceremony in Cedarhurst Park.

Rabbi Schneur Wolowik of the Chabad of the Greater Five Towns led the lighting of the giant menorah in Andrew J. Parise Cedarhurst Park in Cedarhurst on Dec.8, the first night of Hanukkah. In addition to the menorah lighting there was singing and dancing to the traditional holiday songs.

Hanukkah, also known as the Festival of Lights, is an eight-day celebration marking the Maccabean revolt, its subsequent victory and the miracle of a small amount of oil that lit the Temple for eight days and eight nights.
