Anthony Santino is new town supervisor

With her family surrounding her at the podium at the Garden City Hotel, Acting District Attorney Madeline Singas became D.A.-elect Singas with her victory over Town of Hempstead Supervisor Kate Murray on Tuesday night.
Singas showed her appreciation for everyone who campaigned for her. “Most of all, I would like to thank all of you — the volunteers,” she said. “I don’t stand here alone, I stand here because of you.”

County Legislature
In the 7th Legislative District, incumbent Legislator Howard Kopel (R-Lawrence) defeated fellow Five Towns resident Tova Plaut."I have a lot of people to thankand I'm honored that the people chose me," kopel said. He added that he will continue working on the county's fiscal issues and helping to see capital projects through completion.

Plaut also thanked the people who supported her campaign. "WE ran a good tace and I appreciate all the support that everyone gave me," she said.

Denise Ford (R-Long Beach) defeated Democrat Ken Leibowitz in the 4th L.D, and Carrié Solages (D-Elmont) won re-election over Republican Felix Quayson and Green Party candidate Laurence Seth Hirsh in the 3rd District. Solages gained his third term as a legislator.
In the 6th L.D., Republican C. William Gaylor was the winner over Democrat Jim Paymar in the race to succeed the retiring Francis X. Becker (R-Lynbrook).

Town of Hempstead
Longtime Town of Hempstead Councilman Anthony Santino, a Republican, was elected supervisor, defeating his Democratic challenger, Rita Kestenbaum.
Republican Town Clerk Nasrin Ahmad bested her Democratic challenger, Dino Amoroso, and the town’s receiver of taxes, Donald Clavin, also a Republican, overcame a challenge from Democrat Gina Arcabascio.
In Hempstead’s Council District 3, Republican Bruce Blakeman, who was appointed to the town board in January, beat Democrat Milagros Vicente.

Despite her defeat, Vicente was upbeat about future political battles. "I am really excited that there was a Latina running for the Town of Hempstead," she said. "That shows that there's diversity. Our committee is ready to fight for more diversity."
