To help the New York Blood Center regain some of the approximately 6,000 units of blood lost due to cancellations because of Hurricane Sandy, The Father John Farrell Council Knights of Columbus 5962 held a blood drive at St. Joseph’s R.C. Church in Hewlett on Nov. 25.

The six-hour event attracted 48 people and collected 41 pints of blood in conjunction with Long Island Blood Services.

“I didn’t think I’d be doing this today,” said Lucy Negrino with a smile as she came immediately from Sunday mass to the blood drive.
