After a two-year battle with cancer Bronx-native and former Cedarhurst business owner Nils Alan Flanzraich died in Reno, Nev. on June 30. He was 71.
Born in the Bronx on March 3, 1944, Flanzraich’s diverse professional career included being an electrician; he was a member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union No. 3; a stockbroker and with his wife, Jill, he built a pair of businesses: Jinil Au Chocolat in Cedarhurst and Adventures in Advertising in Las Vegas.
“Friends and family loved him for his frank sense of humor, his joy for living, his way with words, his quick calculations and his love of literature and music,” said daughter Annie Flanzraich.
In addition to Annie, Flanzraich is survived by Jill, son Jay Flanzraich and his wife, Jennifer Flanzraich, and Annie’s husband, Michael Higdon; granddaughter Lauren Flanzraich, and Nils’ sisters Lisa Flanzraich and Paula Flanzraich. He is also mourned by family members Bari Fagin, Marty Fagin, Matthew Fagin, Geeta Devgan, Leigh Fagin, Ryan Stewart and Laura Lazarus as well as many friends and colleagues.
A graveside service was held on Monday at Sierra Memorial Gardens in Reno.

The family requests that donations be made in Flanzraich’s memory to either a local library system, public broadcasting station or food bank.
“He will be deeply missed,” Annie said. “His memory will be for a blessing.”
