What appears to be another robbery of a similar pattern that has occurred at three other Inwood businesses happened most likely after midnight on Jan. 21 at the Discount Supermarket at 441 Bayview Ave.
Police said that an employee of the store “closed and secured the business” at 11:53 p.m. on Jan. 20. When the man, 48, returned at 6 a.m. he found the store’s power to be off, the ATM and safe pried open as well as two cash registers that were broken into.
An unspecified amount of money was taken, along with 1,500 worth of cigars and cigarettes and $200 in other merchandise, according to police, who found that the hinges of the back door were cut.
The Herald reported that Melissa Deli, Herman’s Deli and Claudia Family Laundromat — all on Sheridan Boulevard in Inwood — were allegedly robbed earlier this month.
In all three incidents, the power was shut off and ATMs were either taken or broken into. There were attempted robberies of two other businesses, Sobol’s Beer Distribution and Inwood Financial, which also fit the pattern. Typically the thieves strike during 2 and 4 a.m., according to reports from the business owners. An arrest was made by New York City police in Queens for a similar incident earlier this month.

Anyone with information regarding these crimes are asked to call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-8477. All calls are kept confidential.
