'Big Daddy' loved his family and friends

Lifetime Inwood resident Robert Stanya Sr. died on Sept. 9. He was 79.

Known as “Big Daddy” to his three sons and daughter due to his husky build, Stanya owned a gardening business and was a longtime custodian at Lawrence High School.

Big Daddy touched the lives of many people, and will always be in the hearts of all the people he came in contact with, his daughter-in-law Nannette Stanya said. He will be missed but not forgotten, she added.

Stanya is survived by his wife of 60 years, Tina, sons Frank, Robert Jr. and Kevin, daughter Wanda (known to him as “Babe”), and daughters-in-law Nanette and Heidi. Another daughter-in-law, Donna Biondo Stanya predeceased him.

He is also survived by grandchildren Michael, Jarrett, Lyndsey, Matthew, Michael and Briana, and great grandchildren Allie and Richie, his sister, Maryann Giordano, brother-in-law Eddie Capone sister-in-law Claudia Hubbard, Joseph and Marisa Mazziotti and many nieces and nephews.

Services were held at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Inwood on Sept. 13. He was interred at Greenfield Cemetery in Hempstead.
