On Sept. 26 Elliott Winograd, a noted attorney, devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother died peacefully at his Rockville Centre home at the age of 77.

Winograd tried over 500 jury cases during his 50-year legal career. He served as the New York City Chief Negotiator for the civil division of its law department, and regularly donated his time as a pro bono Special Master and mediator with the Nassau County Supreme Court.

Winograd was extremely philanthropic and active in his beloved Rockville Centre community, where, among other things, he was president of Central Synagogue of Nassau County, a member of the Rockville Centre Zoning Board and a Rockville Centre auxiliary police officer.

Winograd’s dry wit and love of the law were trumped only by his love for his family. He was born in Chicago, raised in Shenendoah, Pa. and was an avid Chicago Bears fan. He was also a devoted attendee of his grandchildren’s activities.

He leaves behind his wife Susan, children Elizabeth and Michael, daughter-in-law Siobahn, grandchildren Liam and Chloe and sisters Linda and Loretta.

Funeral services were held on Sept. 28 at Central Synagogue of Nassau County. Winograd received a police escort in honor of his contributions to Rockville Centre and an honor guard detail in recognition of his service with the United States Army National Guard.
