Randolph Holder, the New York Police Department Housing Bureau officer who was killed on Oct. 20, allegedly by the man he was chasing, was remembered by family, friends, community leaders, police brass and officers as thousands lined Merrick Boulevard in Jamaica, Queens, on Oct. 28.

At the Greater Allen A.M.E. Cathedral of New York, Mayor Bill De Blasio said that people from Holder’s community could look at him as a positive example. “He loved the people he served, and they loved him back,” he said. “They felt very comfortable with him. He showed us how we can work for a safer world for all.”

Holder, 33, who lived in Brooklyn, grew up in Far Rockaway and was a five-year veteran of the NYPD.

Nassau Police Benevolent Association President James Carver said that more than 400 police officers from the NCPD attended the funeral, along with many police officers and officials from all over the country. “Officer Holder is a true hero that represents New York and Guyana's finest,” he said in a prepared statement. “He died in the line of duty protecting the people of the City of New York.”
