School spirit strongly displayed during Homecoming

To say that the week of Homecoming was an exciting time at Hewlett High School would be an understatement.

It was clearly Homecoming when cars with neon writing drove through the streets and students sported Hewlett Bulldog apparel. Students very much looked forward to the week leading up to the important Homecoming football game for the fun experiences that it provided.

The Homecoming football game was against the Plainedge Red Devils. Although the Bulldogs were defeated in a tough game, there was much more to Homecoming than just winning.

“Spirit Week” occurred throughout the days before the game, and it was an opportunity for students to literally show their spirit. Students adorned their grades’ respective hallways with balloons, streamers, and signs. On pajama day, a different atmosphere existed within the school as students and some teachers arrived to class in their comfiest boxers, T-shirts, and sweatshirts. It was fun to see various Hewlett students dressed in footsy pajamas and nightgowns. There was no nap time given during the day, however.

Tuesday was “Twisted Tuesday” as a substitute for the usual “Wacky Wednesday” that would have existed had there not been a day off for Yom Kippur. Tuesday was perhaps the most interesting day because various looks were apparent within the halls. There were tutus and high socks as well as overalls and shiny tights.

After the hiatus from school, there was Thursday “Theme Day” when students represented their grade’s respective theme that related to the Homecoming overall theme of the supernatural. Last but not least was blue and white day. The seniors had ordered special blue and white shirts that allowed them to stand out as the oldest students in the halls. “Spirit Week” was an exciting time for students, filled with devising creative outfits and taking pictures with friends.
