Shalom Task Force honors six

Annual brunch on Sunday at the Sephardic Temple

Posted

Celebrating their 24th year, the Shalom Task Force will honor six individuals for their community service at the annual brunch on Sunday at the Sephardic Temple at 775 Branch Blvd. in Cedarhurst at 9:30 a.m.

After learning that women in the Orthodox Jewish community were being assaulted in their own homes, Nechama Wolfson and several other women founded the task force in 1992. This was a groundbreaking organization at a time when domestic abuse was not being acknowledged in the Orthodox community.

Awards will be presented to Rabbi Aryeh Lebowitz and his wife Elana for community leadership, Lois Raff Bieler for legal services, Tina Machnikoff for mental health services, Sharon Fogel will receive the Dedicated Service Award and the late Gustave Jacobs will be recognized with the task force’s Legacy Award. The brunch is dedicated this year to him.
