Six to be inducted in Hewlett-Woodmere alumni Hall of Fame

The Hewlett-Woodmere Alumni Association will induct six Hewlett High School graduates into its Hall of Fame during a induction brunch and ceremony at the high school on Sunday beginning at 11:30 a.m.
Charles Rait, class of 1962, Jeffrey A. Bader ’63, Laurie Lipton ’71, H. Gwen Marcus ’74, Matthew J. Bassiur ’91 and Gus Rosendale ’96 are the inductees.

Laurie Lipton

An imaginative artistic talent combines with Lipton’s memorable drawing technique to produce art that has an astounding amount of detail created by drawing thousands of tiny lines that stunningly obtain tone, form, light and shade. Her works have been exhibited extensively at shows and galleries in London, Scotland, Spain, Paris, Holland, Italy, Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, New York, Baltimore, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Tennessee, Florida and California.
Publications and media in Australia, the United Kingdom, Norway, Denmark, Netherlands, Russia, Spain, Canada and the U.S. have included her art. “The Extraordinary Drawings of Laurie Lipton,” contains 70 of her drawings spanning three decades. H. Gwen Marcus

    Named of the 50 most powerful women in cable by “Cable Fax: The Magazine and one the 100 most powerful women in entertainment by “The Hollywood Reporter,” Marcus, who works for Showtime Networks Inc. in New York as executive vice president, general counsel, is the cable company’s chief legal officer and helps shape strategies as senior management.      
    Speaking at schools and on business, legal, and diversity panels, Marcus mentors students and colleagues about careers, management, women in the workplace and diversity.  She chairs committees and boards for not-for-profit organizations, including Theatre Development Fund (TDF/TKTS) and the LGBT Community Center. For several consecutive years, she was the largest individual fundraiser for AIDS Walk New York.
