Beginning from the Hebrew Academy of the Five Towns and Rockaway (HAFTR) field on Central Avenue in Lawrence, 55 participants headed to Washington Avenue to Broadway up to Frost Lane and back down Central Avenue in a 1K race on Aug. 14 to raise money for the Friends of Israel Defense Forces.
Approximately $1,650 was pledged to support the FIDF, an organization that offers a range of programs that address the educational, social, economic, recreational, spiritual, and cultural needs of the soldiers as well as the families of soldiers fallen in defense of Israel.
Zachary Grossman crossed the finish line first with a time of 2:26. Michael Polishuk placed second and Josh Shmuel and Kevin Kehni were tied for third. Daniel, Zar, 10, was the first kid to finish; his time was 4:10. Kim Keller, Grossman’s girlfriends, was the first women to finish with a time of 4:30. “It was a great opportunity to support a fantastic cause,” Grossman said.
Event coordinator Temmi Kramer said she appreciated the efforts of all the participants, the auxiliary police who provided security and sponsors: HAFTR, Gourmet Glatt and Warren Levi Martial Arts & Fitness.
