The director, a graduate of SUNY Stony Brook, who grew up in Atlantic Beach and Baldwin, describes his latest project as the most commercial of all his 16 films to date. “It could compete with a $100 million Hollywood studio movie,” he says.

An action thriller about a 20-year police officer facing an indictment, the movie unfolds over the course of one night. Charlie (portrayed by Robert Funaro, who appeared as Eugene Pontecorvo in “The Sopranos”) decides to take down those responsible for beheading two fellow cops: the Russian Mafia. Armand Assante, Sean Young and Robert Clohessy also star in the film. It was shot in numerous South Shore locations, including Baldwin (which stands in for the film’s setting in Queens), Bellmore and Point Lookout, and features a chase scene on Lido Boulevard in Lido Beach.

Short films of note include Director Charles Kessler’s “Montauk,” a must-see for sci fi fans. It examines the many conspiracy theories that have surrounded Montauk, from government projects to something more supernatural. Using unearthed files from the Suffolk County Police Department, the audience will be bear witness to the latest and most shocking incident in the area’s history.

And, as always, at this audience-friendly event, everyone is invited to the Closing Night Party and Awards Ceremony, on July 17, at the Bellmore Movies, when the winners are honored. The evening includes a buffet and an awards ceremony featuring William Sadler as co-host. It’s an opportunity to see meet these creative filmmakers who may be stopping here on their way to an Academy Award nomination one day.
