Taking part in a neighborhood parade

The third annual Hewlett-Woodmere Memorial Day Parade since the event was revived in 2013 was akin to a community get together as residents lined Broadway from Irving Place to Piermont Avenue on Monday morning.

Organized by the Hewlett-Woodmere Business Association and the Hewlett-Woodmere School District, the parade included the high school’s marching band, the Hewlett and Woodmere fire departments, the Hewlett-Woodmere Public Schools Endowment Fund, Hewlett-Woodmere Little League, Hewlett-Lawrence Soccer Club, Five Towns Community Chest and the New York Equestrian Club.

After the parade, community members gathered in the high school parking lot for refreshments, some speeches were made and student musicians performed a few pop hits ranging from Mark Ronson’s “Uptown Funk” to Stevie Wonder’s “Sir Duke.”
