Tending to the burning chometz

Woodmere Fire Departments hosts 14th annual event

Posted

Five Towns residents and others from surrounding communities brought their chometz — food items not kosher for Passover — to the 14th annual Woodmere Fire Department chometz burning on April 22.

The eight-day holiday, which commemorates the ancient Hebrews being freed from bondage in Egypt, began last Friday and continues until April 30.

Trash cans were set up and the chometz was placed was them and then emptied into a dumpster that contained a larger fire. A blessing is read after the items are burned.
