Uri Kaufman and Syma Diamond win trustee seats in Lawrence

Daniel Goldstein to be appointed to village board

Uri Kaufman (380 votes) and Syma Diamond (319) will be the two new Village of Lawrence trustees after defeating Daniel Goldstein (276) and Rochelle Stern Kevelson (157) in Tuesday’s election.

Incumbent Trustee Alex Edelman (508), running unopposed, is the new mayor. Sitting Mayor Martin Oliner was term limited.

Village Justice Donald Buchalter (407), also running unchallenged, was re-elected to a four-year term.


Kaufman, Goldstein and Edelman ran togeher under the banner of the Unity Party, Edelman said that he will appoint Goldstein to fill his unexpired term on the board. Goldstein would then have to run for re-election for the full two-year term next year.

Uncontested village elections

In Atlantic Beach, Mayor George Pappas (165) and Trustees Linda L. Baessler (139) and Edward A. Sullivan (141) ran unopposed.

Mayor Mark Weiss (82) and Trustees Tom Cohen (82) and Ken Kornblau (77) gained re-election in Hewlett Harbor.

In Hewlett Bay Park, Mayor Steven Kaufman (13 votes) and Trustees Gail Rubel (12) and Joel Schneider (13) were re-elected.

Mayor Ross Epstein (35) and Trustees Steven Hochberg (34) and Aron Schnell (36) retain their seats in Hewlett Neck.

Woodsburgh Trustees Carl Cayne and Barry Platnick were re-elected with 17 votes each.

All mayoral and trustee terms are two years.
