Walking in WinterFest’s wonderland

Posted

Wantagh, Seaford and Levittown residents had a cool time celebrating the season at the Levittown Community Council WinterFest.

The celebration was held at Levittown Hall in Hicksville on Feb. 11. The Levittown Community Council — a civic organization that was designed to encourage unity and pride among residents of the Levittown School District, which serves northern sections of Wantagh and Seaford — has sponsored the event annually for 16 years.

The tradition began as a spinoff of Levittown’s 50th anniversary celebration, according to the council. Snow lined local streets after a storm swept through Long Island on Feb. 9. However, the weather did not deter folks from attending the festival.

WinterFest 2017 had an “Under the Sea” theme. The event featured free craft stations, entertainment and raffles. Children met with Royal Events Princess Ariel —who performed her favorite songs — and enjoyed a free Partyloons puppet show by Small World Entertainment.

Nassau Lionel Engineers set up a model train exhibit. Members of the model train club encouraged kids to turn on and watch the trains moved around the tracks they laid out across several tables.

Raffle prizes, which were donated by local merchants and residents, were given away every hour. Community members also donated nonperishable food items to the council, which will distribute them to families in need.

Organizations like the Wantagh-Levittown Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Levittown Kiwanis Club, Levittown Chamber of Commerce, Levittown Public Library, Y.E.S. Community Counseling center, St. Bernard’s Church and Levittown American Legion Post 9592 also provided free activities and information about their respective missions. Winners of the council’s Halloween Horror House and Home for the Holidays contests were also introduced and presented with prizes at WinterFest.
