On Friday, April 19 from 7 a.m. to noon, Sanitary District 1 will have garbage trucks at the Cedarhurst and Lawrence Long Island Rail Road stations, Young Israel of Woodmere at 859 Peninsula Blvd. in Woodmere and Temple Hillel at 1000 Rosedale Road in North Woodmere for the collection of chometz — non-kosher food for Passover.

There will also be home pickup from 7 a.m. to noon. The trash needs to be placed at the curb in sturdy, securely tied bags. Do not use the regular trash cans.

For last-minute disposal for a curbside pickup, call (516) 239-5600 from 7 a.m. to noon on April 19, only. An exact time cannot be guaranteed.

The Woodmere Fire Department will hold its annual chometz burning on April 19 beginning at 6 a.m. Non-kosher food items for Passover can be tossed in trash cans in the firehouse parking lot at 20 Irving Place in Woodmere. Firefighters maintain a watchful eye on the cans and then toss the ashes into a dumpster. Do not bring any plastic.
