East Meadow Kiwanis unites for charity with pancake breakfast

Posted

The cafeteria at East Meadow High School filled with the aroma of syrup and the sound of friends conversing during the East Meadow Kiwanis Club’s annual pancake breakfast on March 11.

Roughly 500 people attended and, President-elect Gary Fromowitz said, “It gets a little bigger and better every year.”

The morning did not only consist of food, but a 50/50 raffle, prizes and balloon animals. Supplies for the event was donated by Sunrise Assisted Living, the Empress Diner and Starbucks.

All proceeds from the pancake breakfast go toward scholarships for graduating seniors and tuition to send students to the wilderness program Kamp Kiwanis. The pancake breakfast, which has been held for over 20 years, is the club’s second-largest fundraiser. The largest is its Steven J. Eisman Memorial Golf Outing, which is held in conjunction with Borrelli’s Italian Restaurant and hit a record fundraising goal of $26,000 last year.
