Family fun day for Lag B’Omer

Music and dancing, entertainment from Cirque Taquilar, relay races, inflatables, a petting zoo and a huge bonfire were all part of Chabad of Five Towns 23rd annual family fun day for the Jewish holiday of Lag B’Omer at Andrew J. Parise Cedarhurst Park on May 3.

It is celebrated 33 days after Passover and marks the anniversary of Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai’s death, a sage and lead disciple of Rabbi Akiva in the second century. Considered somewhat of a mourning period, after the 33rd day restrictions are lifted and typically weddings, parties, haircuts and music listening coincide with the celebration.
