The Pfc. John J. Oliveri Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1582 headquartered upstairs of the Imperial Room at 259 Doughty Blvd. in Inwood needs to find a new location after selling the reception and catering hall to the catering company, M & R Catering, which operates out of the building’s downstairs.

The VFW will leave the Imperial Room on Dec. 31. The post is moving but the monument out front is expected to remain. “We’ve been promised that the memorial would stay up out front,” said VFW Commander Frank Santora, adding that the Inwood Memorial Day Parade will still end at the memorial, and the Veterans Day service will still be held there.

Conversations about the sale began in early 2017, Santora said. The VFW approached M & R Catering and the deal was closed by the end of May. “We don’t have quite the membership that we used to have,” Santora said. “We didn’t need the building anymore.”
