Lawrence Elementary School students are sweet on the military

Lawrence Elementary School students collected enough left over Halloween candy to fill 31 boxes that will be sent to U.S. military troops through Operation Gratitude.

The students — third through fifth grade — brought the candy to school, and the collection is coordinated by teacher Kathleen McDonough and the fifth grade student council.

Dr. Glen Shanock, a pediatric dentist in Long Beach, who McDonough knows, paid to ship the candy to California. Teacher Jennifer Talenti also assisted in the candy collection.

“Thanks to all who donated to Operation Gratitude —we have a large donation to send to the troops,” said LES Principal Rina Beach. “As we begin this season of giving thanks, we appreciate our military personnel who fight for our freedom around the world every day.”
