North Woodmere resident Gil Shemtov of Douglas Elliman Real Estate has only been in the real estate business since 2013, but he is ready for his close up as he will appear on the May 8 episode of “House Hunters” on HGTV.

“House Hunters” has been on television since 1999 and it features people looking for a new home with the help of a real estate agent. Shemtov will help to highlight the Village of Atlantic Beach.

HGTV public relations coordinator Mariah Bowers outlined the episode’s synopsis. “A Long Island couple has already moved from the city to the beach, but now she’s ready to go for an even bigger and better home,” she said. “Her husband wants to move back into the city, while she’s looking for extra space and a pool for the kids at a home that’s just a sand dune away from the beach.”

From Shemtov’s perspective, he noted why Atlantic Beach is an appealing real estate location. “Atlantic Beach is in such a unique location, especially for people from New York City,” he said. “You don’t have to travel too far from the City as compared to the Hamptons and you can get a beachfront property in a place that has a small-town feel.”

Before becoming a real estate agent, Shemtov owned a car wash in Valley Stream for six years. He eventually sold it and decided to change careers. “When I was thinking about what was important to me, flexibility was high on the list,” he said. “I knew I didn’t want to be stuck in an office from 9 to 5. Also, being accountable only to myself was what I had been accustomed to as a business owner and to me, real estate has that same structure.”

Shemtov obtained his real estate license in 2013 and has been with Douglas Elliman since then. He works out of the company’s Long Beach office and exclusively works with Five Towns properties.

Thomas Tripodi is Shemtov’s real estate partner creating the Tripodi/Shemtov team at Douglas Elliman. Tripodi noted that Shemtov’s passion is what makes him good at his job. “I think so highly of him that I decided to go into business with him two years ago,” Tripodi said. “It’s really fun working with Gil, he has the personality and work ethic that makes him a great salesperson. He truly cares more about making the best deal rather than making money.”

Tripodi has been partners with Shemtov since 2017. “95 percent of the people who work in real estate work three days and about two hours per week,” he said. “Gil is not like that, he works 8 to 10 hours a day, is constantly on the phone with people. He takes pride in what he does and knows what it takes to be successful.”

Shemtov believes it is his work ethic that has made him successful. “The truth is that real estate is a profession that allows people to benefit from hard work,” he said. “I always keep in mind that the more work you put in, the better success you will have.”

The episode will premiere on Wednesday, May 8 at 10 p.m. on HGTV.
