Police warn of increase in thefts from cars

Nassau County’s 4th Precinct reported multiple thefts from vehicles in the Five Towns and two surrounding communities between Dec. 19 and Dec. 23. Incidents were reported in Cedarhurst, East Rockaway, Hewlett, Island Park, Lawrence and Woodmere during the overnight hours. Two to three men were seen in the area of the incidents exiting a dark-colored Chevrolet Suburban.

In most instances the cars were unlocked, police said. They urge residents to keep their vehicles locked and take all valuables with them when they get out of the cars. Police ask that anyone with information about the incidents call CrimeStoppers at 1-800-244-8477. All calls are confidential.
