Record-breaking year for IFD

In 2018 The Inwood Fire Department responded to 1,030 alarms in 2018, department officials posted on Facebook, the most runs recorded in the history of the department.  

Of those 1,030 runs, 15 were working fires in Inwood, other the other Nassau County Third Battalion communities of Cedarhurst, Hewlett, Meadowmere Park, Lawrence, Valley Stream and Woodmere; and 44 of those 1,030 were in the Silver Point protection district in Atlantic Beach.

There were 546 fire calls, which includes car, brush and structure fires, fire alarms and hazardous material and gas-related calls; 484 calls were rescue or emergency medical-related — ambulance, water rescue, vehicle crashes or elevators that are stuck between floors.
