The DRS Star wins pair of Quill Awards

DRS Star newspaper columnist Jeremy Koffsky captured a first place for Best Online Writing and co-editors-in-chief Sruli Fruchter and Josh Samet won first place awards for Best Front Page Layout at the at the Quill Awards hosted by Adelphi University in Garden City at its annual Press Day on Feb. 28.

Davis Renov Stahler Yeshiva High for Boys in Woodmere was among the 26 public and private schools from across Long Island that attended the conference, which included a panel of seasoned journalists and professors who discussed several issues regarding the media, breakout sessions to exchange ideas, lunch and the awards presentation.

“I’m really proud of the awards our newspaper won at the Quill Awards, which are a reflection of the great work done by our entire staff,” Fruchter said. “I also want to thank our devoted faculty adviser, Ms. Julie Foster, as well as our Menahel, Rabbi Kaminetsky and Principal Dr. [Hillel] Broder, for all of their hard work, and the advice they provided, which was instrumental in making The Star an award-winning newspaper.”
