At Jones Beach, beachcombers are back on duty, the shuffleboard courts are open and The Landing, the new restaurant at the West Bathhouse, will be open for its first full season after making a soft opening in July 2017 and closing for the winter.

Starting May 3, The Landing will be open from Thursday to Sunday before switching to a seven-day schedule on Memorial Day. According to manager Mike Thornton, of Long Beach, the restaurant’s first year had a limited run due to the restaurant’s renovation process.

“We kind of opened up in a hurry and got it open to the public because people saw us building the whole time,” Thornton said. “This year, we have the whole year to get it straight and do a couple of different things.”

Along with the new schedule, The Landing will introduce a raw bar as curated by executive chef Tim Mahoney, the former executive chef for 20 years at Runyon’s of Seaford. The most expensive item on the menu — a t-bone steak — costs $38 and a typical entrée is about $20 a plate.

The Landing will also host tribute bands every Thursday and Saturday night, a DJ on Friday nights, reggae groups on Sunday nights and have its own parking lot next to the bathhouse.

By introducing live music and running on its full schedule, Thornton said, The Landing will become a destination for beachgoers and formal event attendees alike.

“I see it as a beautiful wedding venue,” Thornton said, “a great beach restaurant for lunch and dinner and a good nighttime crowd in the summertime with live music. Just a great place to hang out right on the beach, which you don’t have on Long Island unless you go out to the Hamptons.”

The Landing is currently accepting reservations and private party inquires for its 200-seat dining room and will have its formal grand opening event on June 9.
