Two students were injured Saturday during a junior varsity football game at Long Beach High School, and one of the teens was airlifted to a nearby hospital.

According to police, Fourth Precinct officers rushed to the school, at 322 Lagoon Dr. in Lido Beach, at 10:50 a.m. after two male students collided during the game. One of the victims, a 14-year-old player, suffered a severe neck injury and was taken to an area hospital by a Nassau County Police Department helicopter.

The other player, a 15-year-old student, sustained a shoulder injury and was rushed to a nearby hospital by a NCPD ambulance.

In a statement on Facebook, the school district said that both teens were OK and would soon be discharged from the hospital.

“You may have heard that two students were in injured during a play in our JV football game this morning,” the district said. “Good news! Both students are OK, and will soon be discharged from the hospital. Many thanks to our staff members, parents and students who stepped up with typical Long Beach care and concern at a scary moment.”

It was the second football-related emergency call that Nassau County police responded to on Saturday that occurred within minutes of each other. In a separate incident at 10:15 a.m., Eighth Precinct police rushed to Bethpage High School, at 10 Cherry Ave., after a 15-year-old male was injured while playing football there.

“The victim fell on his neck and head causing injury to his back,” police said in a news release. “The victim was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment in a Nassau County police helicopter.”
