W. T. Clarke honored in nation’s capitol

After being named a 2018 National Blue Ribbon School in October, W.T. Clarke High School in Westbury received spotlight in Washington, D.C. during a congratulatory celebration and trip on Nov. 7 and 8.

Superintendent Kenneth Card Jr. joined W.T. Clarke High School Principal Timothy Voels and teacher representative Joseph Pavia at the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program awards ceremony to accept the distinction.

“It was truly an honor to be present for such a celebration of teaching and learning,” Card said. “The award ceremony was wonderful and a great way to recognize the accomplishment of W.T. Clarke.”

Included among those on hand to honor the 349 National Blue Ribbon Schools was Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos. Of the 300 public schools nationwide that were honored with the award, W.T. Clarke is among only 20 percent that were honored from the high school level. Additionally, W.T. Clarke is one of only 20 schools in New York State to be named a National Blue Ribbon School this year.

“I cannot be more honored and humbled to have been the teacher representative for our amazing school,” said Pavia. “Thank you to my fellow teachers, Dr. Card and Mr. Voels for allowing me to attend this once in a lifetime event. This award is for our entire school.”
